SUMMARY:A History of Salmon Decline in the Columbia River
DESCRIPTION:WRI Red Barn Speaker Event\, May 29\, 2019\, 7PM (doors open 6:30PM) \nRed Barn speaker event\, A History of Salmon Decline in the Columbia River with Jason Lundgren \nOn Wed.\, May 29thin the Wenatchee River Institute’s Red Barn\, Cascade Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group’s (CCFEG) Executive Director Jason Lundgren\, will present A History of Salmon Decline in the Columbia River. Doors will open at 6:30pm for community social and no-host refreshments\, with the presentation beginning at 7pm. \nHuman activities\, including salmon canneries operating along the Columbia during the last half of the 1800’s and the construction of large dams during the 1900’s\, as well as environmental factors such as climate change\, have all contributed to the massive decline in salmon populations. \nLundgren’s presentation will include a slideshow and offer ideas for how salmon in the Columbia River can be protected\, how to mitigate the fish’s population loss and how healthy populations can be restored. \nA graduate of the Evergreen State College in Olympia\, Jason has been involved in fisheries and natural resources for many years. An avid angler\, Jason previously worked for the South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group\, CCFEG’s counterpart in Olympia\, before moving on to a role with the Salmon Recovery Funding Board. As the Executive Director of CCFEG\, Jason is very excited to be involved in salmon recovery in such a vibrant area. He is also on the board of directors for Trout Unlimited. Lundgren lives in Leavenworth with his wife\, three children and George\, the family dog. \nThis Red Barn Event speaker event is co-sponsored by Wenatchee River Institute\, Trout Unlimited\, and CCFEG. \nWenatchee River Institute\, 347 Division St. in Leavenworth | (509)548-0181  www.wenatcheeriverinstitute.org
