SUMMARY:Foothills Wildfire Preparedness
DESCRIPTION:Location: Jacobson Trailhead \nHosted by the Chelan Douglas Land Trust \nCome see how a little elbow grease can transform a piece of land from overgrown to beautifully wildfire-ready. \nWhen we think about wildfire preparedness in our natural lands here in Chelan and Douglas Counties\, we often think of our forests. But what does wildfire preparedness mean in the shrub-steppe habitat close to our lower-elevation communities? At Jacobson Preserve\, the Land Trust has spent the last two years improving habitat and reducing wildfire risk by clearing overcrowded shrubs and planting fire-resilient native grasses and wildflowers. \nJoin Susan Ballinger\, Conservation Fellow\, and Al Murphy\, WSU Chelan Master Gardener\, for this short trailhead talk to explore the work that has been done at Jacobson and ways that local homeowners can use the same techniques to prepare their own shrub-steppe landscapes. Afterwards\, attendees will be invited to stay for a Q&A or may take a self-guided walk at Jacobson. \nRSVP online. Contact susan@cdlandtrust.org or call (509) 667-9708 for more information.
