SUMMARY:Nason Creek Stewardship & Trail Maintenance
DESCRIPTION:Join Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and Butte Brand for a fun fall day of volunteering at Nason Creek Alcove! We will meet in Wenatchee at 8:30 am and carpool to the site about an hour away. Once there\, we will focus our efforts on:\nBrush removal in a small parking area and trail\nInstalling a few steps in a steep portion of trail\nInstalling an informational sign\nRemoving a fence\nDepending on the task you choose\, the work will be light to heavy\, involve hiking less than a mile and using hand tools such as loppers\, hand saws\, hoes and shovels. We will break for lunch at 1 pm\, overlooking Nason Creek\, where CDLT staff will explain the history of the property\, its importance for salmon\, and future habitat restoration plans. You can expect to return to our original meeting spot in Wenatchee by 3 pm.\nCDLT will provide instruction\, tools\, snacks\, water to refill your own bottle\, extra gloves and lunch. Please bring a water bottle\, and wear sturdy clothing you can get dirty\, including close-toed shoes. If you have any dietary restrictions\, we recommend bringing your own food.\nPlease RSVP so we can provide you with more details for the volunteer event as the date approaches\, and get an accurate head count for lunch. \n*All outdoor events are weather and conditions dependent. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Wenatchee River Institute \nA nature writing workshop! \nThe Wenatchee River Institute and Write on the River bring together three north central Washington writers\, Ana Maria Spagna\, Heather Murphy and Derek Sheffield\, with unique perspectives on observing\, recording and sharing words about the natural world. Join us for a day-long workshop at the Barn Beach Reserve on the banks of the Wenatchee River in Leavenworth. \nThe Saturday October 12 workshop\, from 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m.\, includes morning presentations and prompts and afternoon field writing\, concluding with readings by participants and guest writers. The cost is $70\, and a picnic lunch is included. Co-sponsorship means members of either Write On The River or the Wenatchee River Institute pay only $60. DESCRIPTION:Join us for My Sky Family Day on Saturday\, October 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center. All ages are encouraged to experience the fun of hands-on science including learning about the principles of flight\, stellar navigation\, sky stories\, and the space race. In our new My Sky exhibit\, you can get your hands on an enormous 5-foot wide model of the Moon. Explore close-up images of what the Sun looked like on your birthday last year. Invent your own new constellations. The exhibit will introduce you to scientists\, artists\, and other people who are inspired by the sky above us. Come look up\, explore the Sun\, the Moon and the Stars\, and be inspired by the wonder of it all!
