SUMMARY:Putting Your Dahlia's to Bed
DESCRIPTION:This event is hosted by Pybus University \nDate and Time: Tue\, October 22\, 2019 7:00 PM – 8:15 PM PDT \nLocation: Pybus 7 North Worthen Street Wenatchee\, WA 98801 \nDahlia tubers often freeze in our cold winters. If you want to enjoy your gorgeous blooms next spring\, you’ll most likely have to dig and store them at the end of the growing season. This timely class will teach you how as well as how to identify the “eyes” that hold the promise of new growth. Watch a demonstration on how and when to cut down\, dig\, divide and store your tubers. We will discuss different methods of storage and you will have a hands-on demonstration of dividing clumps and labeling tubers. Tools for digging\, dividing and labeling will be shown. Bring your questions and ideas. Attendees will receive a coupon for a free tuber at our April 2020 Tuber Sale at Pybus.\nFor students new to growing dahlias and more experienced growers. \nThis class is instructed by the NCW Dahlia Society. SUMMARY:Search for the Super Battery
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join the Wenatchee Valley Museum for the “Search for the Super Battery”\, a part of the Environmental Film & Speaker Series\, exploring topics important to our community. This films is presented at the Museum in the Performance Hall. These family-friendly events feature a no-host bar\, free popcorn\, and treats. \nWe live in an age when technological innovation seems to be limitlessly soaring. But for all the satisfying speed with which our gadgets have improved\, many of them share a frustrating weakness: the batteries. Though they have improved in last century\, batteries remain finicky\, bulky\, expensive\, toxic\, and maddeningly short-lived. The quest is on for a “super battery\,” and the stakes in this hunt are much higher than the phone in your pocket. \nWith climate change looming\, electric cars and renewable energy sources like wind and solar power could hold keys to a greener future…if we can engineer the perfect battery. Join host David Pogue as he explores the hidden world of energy storage\, from the power-and danger-of the lithium-ion batteries we use today\, to the bold innovations that could one day charge our world.
