SUMMARY:Bead-Your-Own Lanyard Workshop with Amanda Keewatinawin
DESCRIPTION:Join Wenatchee River Institute for an evening filled with creativity and learning. Local Indigenous artist and owner of Mystic North Jewelry\, Amanda Keewatinawin\, will be leading a workshop on the Indigenous art form of beading. She will be sharing knowledge on the history of Indigenous beadwork and how to create your own beaded lanyard. \nCheck Their calendar or E-News again soon for information on a Beaded Earring workshop\, also with Amanda! \nAmanda Keewatinawin is a Nêhiyaw (Cree) woman and an enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe in Rocky Boy\, Montana. She is a mother of twins and a lifelong resident of the Wenatchee valley. She is a local Indigenous artist and entrepreneur who has enjoyed making wearable art for her business\, Mystic North\, here in the valley for about 10 years. Her work is inspired by the beauty of NCW and the surrounding areas. She is passionate about the preservation of Indigenous art\, language\, culture\, and land. When she’s not busy making jewelry for her business\, Amanda enjoys spending time with her daughters\, beading for loved ones and hiking with her dog. \nRegistration includes your own curated kit and instructions to be used during class.\nLimit: 15 participants\nAges: 12 and up. Ages 12-17 need to attend with an adult. \nFour tickets are reserved for Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color (BIPOC) to create equitable access to this program. \nPricing and Discount Code\nWe offer a Pay What You Can model for most of our workshops in recognition that paying for education programs looks different for everyone. For this workshop\, we are offering participants a choice of payments based on the costs to WRI to put on this program. We are happy to support a local\, Indigenous artist and business owner to share her art\, her knowledge\, and her experience. \nThe cost for this workshop is $65/person. Anyone may use the code BEADIT for $10 off. If this presents a hardship but you would still like to participate\, please email our Community Programs Educator at the email below to discuss options. If you would like to add a donation to your fee\, please feel free to do so\, knowing that this is how we support our Pay What You Can model and discount codes. \n\nEvent Link \n\n\n\n\nCONTACT INFO\nVirginia Shoup\nvshoup@wenatcheeriverinstitute.org\n509-548-0182\, ext 5

She taught biology and botany at Everett Community College until retiring to the Olympic Peninsula in 2017.
