Space is limited. \nNote: Only sign up if you can attend all classes. \nIndividual Class Descriptions\n\nClass 1– November 18\, 2025 6:30-8:30pm\nBike Ride Prep: Readying your bike for a smoother ride.\n\n~30 min. lecture: tools and supplies (including emergency repair kit items)\, fundamental skills overview\n~90 min. hands-on fundamental skills lab: transmission cleaning and lubrication\, basic shift and brake adjustment\, suspension setup\, flat repair\nif extra time permits: appropriate elective skills upon request\n\nClass 2 – December 16\, 2025 6:30-8:30pm\nBike Adjustment: Tuning and customizing your bike for a better experience.\n\n~30 min. lecture: tools and supplies\, fundamental skills overview\n~90 min. hands-on fundamental skills lab: advanced shift and brake adjustment\, dropper and saddle adjustment\nif extra time permits: appropriate elective skills upon request\n\nClass 3 – January 20\, 2026 6:30-8:30pm\nBike Maintenance: Servicing your bike for a longer life.\n\n~30 min. lecture: tools and supplies\, fundamental skills overview\n~90 min. hands-on fundamental skills lab: brake pad replacement\, tubeless setup\, cable and housing replacement\, wheel truing\, bearing assessment and lubrication\nif extra time permits: appropriate elective skills upon request\n\nPlease note: class content will be flexible and depend on time\, student experience\, and the bikes brought in.\n\n\nWe may cover extra elective skills at the end of the lab if time allows\, such as:\n-Chain sizing and repair\n-Driver body cleaning and pawl lubrication\n-Derailleur hanger alignment\n-Cup brake bleeds\n-Headset adjustment\n-Hub adjustment \n\nAfter registering we will reach out to collect your bike’s brand\, model\, and condition. We’ll do our best to include all bikes\, but we especially encourage bringing bikes that aren’t in perfect condition\, since they provide more real-world problems for everyone to learn from. Each class will start with a ~30-minute lecture covering the skills and tools needed. The remaining ~90 minutes will be hands-on lab time\, the class will be working in pairs at stands.

The presentation will start at 7:00pm. \nAfter a summer of overcrowding and understaffing in The Enchantments\, the issue of day use management has reached an inflection point. Will this offseason present an opportunity to make changes along the Icicle Creek corridor\, and if so\, what will they entail? Hear from Seattle Times outdoors reporter Gregory Scruggs\, who covered the issue closely this summer and traveled to Colorado to learn how another mountain town grappled with a similar challenge\, along with Mat Lyons\, Executive Director of TREAD\, who has been working with Chelan County stakeholders on a proposal for alternative transportation options to Enchantments trailheads\, and Sarah Shaffer\, Executive Director of Wenatchee Outdoors\, who will share insights on the on-the-ground work with over 40 volunteers in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service\, packing out pounds of trash from the Enchantments Wilderness area. \nAbout the presenters:\nGregory Scruggs (he/him) is the outdoors reporter at The Seattle Times\, where he writes about the intersection of recreation\, land management and the outdoor industry in Washington. His coverage takes him deep into the Cascades and out on the Salish Sea. We will explore what makes this region distinct from the rest of Washington and construct a sense of place with an appreciation of both classic-friend plants and regional specialties. \nAbout the presenter: Elliot Robison is the incoming Chapter Chair for the WNPS Northeast Chapter.
