SUMMARY:2025 Leavenworth Christmas Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:Wenatchee River Institute is hosting the Leavenworth Christmas Bird Count this year! \nThe Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a nationwide community science effort to count birds that has been happening for over 120 years. It is organized by the National Audubon Society\, and local counts are compiled by regional Audubon chapters\, community members\, or organizations like WRI. Specific counts occur on one day in a 15-mile diameter circle around a town\, and the Leavenworth count is happening on Wednesday\, December 18th! \nThere are plenty of routes to cover and lots of space for volunteer leaders or beginning birders to join in. If you’d like to participate\, please send an email to Joshua (contact info below). \nThis is a great opportunity to both volunteer for this amazing community science project as well as learn from fellow community members. There is no cost to participate. Depending on the route you are on\, there are varying amounts of birding to be done on foot or from the car. You can also participate from home! \n  \nEvent Link

SUMMARY:Holiday Wreath Making Party
DESCRIPTION:Join Wenatchee River Institute this winter season to create your own holiday wreath to take home. Come prepared to experiment with a variety of foraged materials such as lichens\, evergreen branches\, dried flower stems\, pinecones\, berries\, dried leaves\, and citrus slices. All the materials we will use have been gathered around WRI’s campus and surrounding areas by the Land Steward\, with all of the wreath bases being handmade from the weeping willow at the entrance to WRI! You can expect a fun gathering learning from WRI’s Land Steward to make an artistic\, nature inspired\, compostable wreath. \nYour beautiful creations will be fully compostable and can be dropped off at WRI for disposal. If you would like to bring some non-compostable garnishments from home to add to your wreath\, just make sure to remove them before composting. \nThis event will take place inside a heated building with seating available for those who need it. Bathrooms are onsite. Our building and bathrooms are both ADA accessible. \n  \nEvent Link to Register
