SUMMARY:Beavers Restoring Watersheds
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, January 10\, 2018 – 7:00pm\n\n\nLocation: The Barn @ Barn Beach Reserve\, 347 Division Street\, Leavenworth\, WA\n\n\n\n\nHosted by the Wenatchee River Institute \nADMISSION BY DONATION\, ALL AGES WELCOME! \nDOORS OPEN AT 6:30PM FOR NO HOST REFRESHMENTS \nU.S. Forest Service biologist\, Kent Woodruff will discuss working to reintroduce beavers to forest streams where they used to be common. \nThe Methow Beaver Project aims to understand the ecological impacts of climate change on water storage\, an essential part of the long-term health of the Methow watershed. Earlier snow melts and precipitation that falls as rain instead of snow will make for drier summers\, stressing fish populations as well as local irrigators. Beaver dams and the wetland “sponges” they create allow the watershed to retain water for longer\, improving late-season flows. Beaver dams also increase riparian habitat\, reduce stream temperatures\, restore stream complexity\, and capture sediment. These effects support many species\, including the Spring Chinook\, Steelhead\, Cutthroat Trout\, and Bull Trout that spawn in the Methow watershed. Restoring beaver populations is a way to adapt to changing climate conditions\, ensuring the future of our salmon recovery efforts and of the local community.

SUMMARY:LED Streetlights-Chelan County PUD
DESCRIPTION:Chelan County PUD Presents- \nOn November 20\, 2017\, Andrew Grassell\, Energy Development and Conservation manager\, outlined a proposal to establish rates for LED streetlights that recognize energy savings and could lead to grants to cover the costs for small cities to install them. Grassell said changes in the energy charge for LED streetlights would mean savings of about $1.40 per light each month.  The lower rate also could help Cashmere\, Chelan\, Entiat and Leavenworth secure state funding to cover up to 100 percent of the cost to install energy-saving LED streetlights. \nThe proposed rate follows an inventory and audit of streetlights in cities served by Chelan PUD\, Grassell said. In addition\, the PUD installed test LED streetlights in five Wenatchee neighborhoods and asked for feedback. The few responses were neutral to positive. Not only do LED lamps use less power\, studies show they increase safety and reduce night sky effects. \nThree information meetings are scheduled to provide more information: \n\nMonday\, Dec. 11\, 5:30pm – Leavenworth PUD Auditorium\, 222 Chumstick Hwy.\nTuesday\, Dec. 12\, 5:30pm – Chelan PUD Conference Room\, 1034 E. Woodin Ave.\nWednesday\, Dec. 20\, 5:30pm – Wenatchee\, Confluence Technology Center\, 285 Technology Center Way\n\nA hearing on the new rate will be held at the Commission Board meeting on Monday\, January 8.
