SUMMARY:Wenatchee Valley Erratics Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet Tuesday\, February 11 at 7:00 PM. Our speaker will present remotely via Zoom from Portland. Those not computer- or Zoom-savvy can attend in-person for a live screening at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center\, 127 S. Mission\, Wenatchee. Or at home using Zoom link    https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81855547958Meeting ID: 818 5554 7958 \nDr. Scott Burns\, Professor Emeritus of Geology at Portland State University\, is a researcher\, teacher\, and story-teller of Pacific Northwest Geology. He will discuss “The Ancient Ice Age Floods in the Pacific Northwest.”\n\n\n \nDr. Scott Burns\n\nWe know that Ice Age Floods have inundated the Pacific Northwest over the past 2.8 million years. But we primarily concentrate on the last ones\, the Missoula Floods\, that occurred between 20\,000-15\,000 years ago. That’s because the Missoula Floods left the most visible record; they obliterated nearly all the evidence of earlier inundations. Current research\, however\,  shows an unfolding story of the many torrents that preceded the Missoula Floods. Erica Medley\, an MS student of Dr. Burns\, discovered many deposits of these rarely discussed ancient floods. Dr. Burns\, a most dynamic speaker\, is here to talk about those older ones!\n\n\n\n\n \n\nMissoula Flood waters backing up behind Wallula Gap forming Glacial Lake Lewis – depiction by Stev Ominski\n\nThe program is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Basics of a viable vegetable garden (Connie Mehmel)
DESCRIPTION:WENATCHEE — The WSU Chelan-Douglas Master Gardener Program will offer four gardening classes at Pybus Public Market in January and February. The winter classes series titled “Productive Winter: A Garden Planning Series” will take place in the market’s Board Room\, which has its own entrance on the southeast corner of the building. \nAll classes begin at 10 a.m.\, will last 45 minutes to 1 hour\, and are free to the public. Advance registration is not required but is appreciated to ensure enough printed materials are available. Web links to register for classe can be found below. \n“Winter offers a chance to figure out what worked in your garden this past year and what didn’t; that information will help you shape a plan for the next growing season\,” said WSU Chelan-Douglas Master Gardener Program Coordinator Marco Martinez. “The class series our program is offering will further inform your decisions and contribute to the best possible outcomes. The information covered in these classes will prove useful whether you’re a beginning gardener or an experienced gardener.” \n\nSaturday\, Feb. 8: Basics of a viable vegetable garden (Connie Mehmel)\nWhen it comes to planting vegetables\, timing is everything. All plants have a minimum and maximum soil temperature for seed germination\, as well as a minimum and maximum air temperature to grow. Whether you start your vegetables from seeds or purchase plants from a nursery\, learn how to keep them healthy and productive throughout the growing season. \nClick here for the web link to register for this class.

He witnessed the North American Distance Records set at the Leavenworth Ski Hill and was a descendant of the men that constructed Bakke Hill in the 1920’s. Bakke Hill was the site of the National Ski Jumping Championships in 1941\, 1959\, 1967\, 1974 and 1978.
