Then\, participate in creating a watercolor postcard at the Saddle Rock shelter. All materials will be provided; all you need to bring is yourself and your creativity. \nThis event is FREE and open to the public. All ages are welcome. \nDid you know that you can take the bus to Saddle Rock? Use Link Transit Route 3 to get there! Service to Saddle Rock is “on call” for all trips. We’ll have a chance to warm up at Tall Timber Ranch Lodge halfway through the day. \n⛄Snowshoers should be able to walk over difficult terrain on snowshoes for 3 hours in winter weather. DESCRIPTION:Click here for registration link \n  \n2025 Tour de Plain Event # 3 Course Description \n  \nThe event offers 3 race options:  There are two timed events with a short (5 KM) and long (18 KM) tour of the Beaver Creek Trail. You can opt for classic or freestyle technique. The 3rd option is untimed/noncompetitive with no time record for the short course.  The events begin and finish at the Osprey Lodge Trailhead in Thousand Trails. \n  \nFor the 5 km short course\, begin from the Osprey Lodge trailhead and scan the START QR code there.  Ski along the BCT up valley to the Clear Creek loop.  Scan the QR code at the checkpoint in the loop. Then ski the BCT past the start to the Chiwawa Loop Rd crossing and scan the QR code at this checkpoint before returning on the BCT to the Osprey Lodge.   Scan the FINISH QR code there to complete the event. There are 4 QR codes scanned on the short course – START\, Clear Creek Loop\, Chiwawa Rd turnaround and FINISH.  All QR codes for the short course are on red signs. \n  \nThe long course starts at the Osprey Lodge trailhead. Scan the long course START QR code to begin the event and proceed on the BCT to the Clear Creek Loop. Scan the QR code at this checkpoint in the loop. Then ski BCT down valley to Plain until you reach the Meadow loop parking lot.  Scan the QR code near this trailhead and then return on the BCT back to the Osprey Lodge trailhead.    Scan the long course FINISH QR code to complete the event.  There are 4 QR codes scanned on the long course – START\, Clear Creek Loop\, Meadow Loop trailhead and FINISH.  All QR codes for the long course are on blue signs.  Do not scan the QR code at the Chiwawa Road crossing which is for the short course only. \n  \nThe course will be open from Friday\, February 28\, 2025 starting at 8 AM through Monday\, March 3\, 2025 completing the race by dusk. \n  \nYou can ski the course as many times as you’d like. Your times will be recorded and your fastest time counts. Enjoy the skiing! \n  \nSelf-timing \nTiming will be managed by each racer’s smart phone using the Webscorer Race Timer app to scan QR codes. The QR codes are marked visibly and scanning can be done without internet connection. Timing instructions will be sent to each racer in their confirmation email. DESCRIPTION:Wenatchee River Institute presents \nJoin the Wenatchee Valley Astronomy Club on a family friendly journey through space. Using a variety of telescopes\, we’ll gaze up into the Milky Way and learn about some of the best night sky objects to view. From the stunning rings of Saturn and planetary nebulas to large cataclysmic supernova remnants we’ll journey through our own galaxy and even take a look at neighboring ones. \nDuring this program we’ll also explore the basics of telescope use\, the different types of telescopes\, and some helpful tricks to enhance your experience in star gazing. \nPlease dress for the cool evening weather as we will be outside the entire time. Be sure to leave the bright white lights at home. If flashlights are needed\, please only use red lights. As there is no seating\, please bring a blanket or chair. \nAge Limit: 8+ years old\nAges 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.\nRegistration for this event is required. The presentation will start at 7:00pm. \nJoin us for a presentation on Cottonwood (Populus species) which are common across North American floodplains and riparian ecosystems\, including those of the Columbia River Basin and the watersheds of the North Central Cascades. Across the West\, there are several species of cottonwood\, all of which are riparian specialists that rely on the flowing water that rivers and streams provide to disperse their seeds\, facilitate growth\, and complete their life cycle. Cottonwood are often a dominant tree species in arid and semi-arid floodplains and build wildlife habitat through forest stands and shape fish habitat through their large wood that influences rivers and their floodplains. Here we’ll discuss how cottonwood evolved to be true river specialists\, and what their presence\, absence\, and regeneration can tell us about a river’s history and diversity: its flow regime and the evolution of its channels across the watershed. Join us for a virtual fieldtrip through the rivers of North Central Washington as we unlock the natural history of rivers\, as told by their floodplain cottonwood forests. \nNate Hough-Snee is a Leavenworth\, Washington-based wetland and riparian ecologist who researches and restores aquatic ecosystems across the Pacific Northwest. He has a Ph.D. in Ecology from Utah State University’s Watershed Sciences Department. An environmental storyteller at heart\, Nate currently spins environmental narratives of the Wenatchee and Entiat watersheds\, Lake Chelan\, and Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. Nate currently works with the Lake Chelan Research Institute as a senior scientist and conducts environmental research and policy work through his firm\, Meadow Run Environmental. Recently Nate has focused his attention on environmental flows for rivers and streams\, and how they affect various forest habitats. SUMMARY:Snowshoe Stroll at the Hatchery
DESCRIPTION:Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery Presents \nBegin the year with new discoveries! Starting from the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery\, join Wenatchee River Institute naturalist guides on a one-mile snowshoe trail along beautiful Icicle Creek. We will learn about native wildlife and ecology along the way. What signs do we see along the trail that tell us what animals were there? How do the plants and animals survive winter? Even if this is your first time on snowshoes\, come along and enjoy this fun outdoor winter program! Bring your enthusiasm for the wonders of winter and nature\, and make sure to dress in warm layers. \nMeeting location – Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery visitor center.\nDifficulty level – Beginner level\, all skill levels are welcome. Not ADA accessible due to non-plowed trails.\nProvided – Snowshoes\, gaiters\, and poles.\nLimit of 12 participants per group – Registration required for everyone in the party. \nFree for children 5 and under (only 2 spaces available per trail group): there are no snowshoes available at this size. \nCost – Pay What You Can: \nWe offer the Pay What You Can model in recognition that paying for education programs looks different for different people. \nThese price suggestions are based on the costs to WRI to put on this program. You will get a code with your confirmation to receive your discount.\nSki Rentals.
