SUMMARY:LWSC BAKKE CUP 2026
DESCRIPTION:THE LEAVENWORTH CLASSIC: ALPINE GS\, SKI JUMPING\, & NORDIC\nSUNDAY\, FEBRUARY 1ST\nALL CHILDREN ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE AND ALL PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE LWSC SKI TEAMS.\nTHE BAKKE CUP IS A 3-WAY RACE. GS AND JUMP RESULTS DETERMINE THE START ORDER OF THE NORDIC RACE\, WHICH DETERMINES THE OVERALL FINISH RESULTS. \nThe event is open to any youth ages 6 through 17.\nRace categories by gender category and age:  U8 (6-7)\, U10 (8-9)\, U12 (10-11)\, U14 (12-13)\, U18 (14-17).\nRace category based on on racer age as of 1/1/2025 (US Ski & Snowboard Age Rules) \nGetting kids out on the snow and having fun is the idea behind the day – we want kids to leave with good memories and lots of smiles. \nREGISTER\n2025 RESULTS\nBakke isn’t just a name– Kjell Bakke\, for whom the race is named\, was a constant supporter of the LWSC and kids programs. He witnessed the North American Distance Records set at the Leavenworth Ski Hill and was a descendant of the men that constructed Bakke Hill in the 1920s. Bakke Hill was the site of the National Ski Jumping Championships in 1941\, 1959\, 1967\, 1974 and 1978. Kjell was also instrumental in getting the “D” jump behind Ski Hill Lodge built. \nEVENT BASICS \nAlpine Race: \n\nGS course on the big hill. Places based on combined time for 2 runs.\n\nSki Jump: \n\n2 jumps per competitor. Distances added for the two jumps.\nAll kids under 12 will jump on small hill unless they have practiced on the big jump.\nKids 12-17 will have option to jump from the small hill or the big jump.\nAll kids must have jumped at least one time on the jump prior to the competition. (Practice jumping has been happening during Wednesday and some Friday night Alpine training- Reach out to Alpine Team head coach to confirm). Kids will be allowed one practice jump before the event that day.\nA small jump next to the Lodge will be constructed for the kids who have not jumped before (or younger kids not ready for the D jump) and will earn a set minimum score regardless of distance.\n\nNordic Race*: \n\nRacers can either skate or Classic ski.\nThe Nordic stage is pursuit fashion\, and the starting order based on the results of the first two events.\n1K for 11 & under\, 2K for 12+.\nStarts behind Ski Hill Lodge\, loops by ski jump\, big tow\, back to lodge. 2k is twice around.\nTwo way competitors will start 20 seconds after the last 3-way racers.\n\n* The Finish Order of the Nordic race determines the outcome of THE ENTIRE RACE. So if your athlete does not participate in the Nordic portion of the race they will not be able to podium. \n  \nTIMELINE \nCheck-in/ Bib pick up: 8:30am – on the Ski Hill Lodge patio \nAlpine Race: 9:30 – First racer starts (Warm up/course slip only – 8:45-9:30am). \nSki Jump Competition: Following completion of the Alpine Race (time dependent on how many racers we’ve got) \n*Competitors will have a short break between jump and Nordic to change gear and refuel before the Nordic Pursuit while results are being calculated for Nordic start times.* \nNordic Race: After Ski Jump \nFees: Donation based (donate what you can – all donations benefit the LWSC Ski Team!) \n*ALL EVENTS\, TIMES AND LOCATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE*  We appreciate your patience as details may change\, and as always events may run late or early depending on weather\, participants and other factors. \nHelmets are required for Alpine and Ski Jump for all participants. \nEvent Link for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Northeast Washington Wildflowers: A floristic tour
DESCRIPTION:Wenatchee Valley chapter of Washington Native Plant Society is offering Northeast Washington Wildflowers. \nThe Northeastern corner of our state from Spokane to the Canadian and Idaho borders has its own floral mix\, with influences from the Rocky Mountains\, British Columbia\, the Palouse and more. We will explore what makes this region distinct from the rest of Washington and construct a sense of place with an appreciation of both classic-friend plants and regional specialties. \nAbout the presenter: Elliot Robison is the incoming Chapter Chair for the WNPS Northeast Chapter. He is a relatively recent hobby botanist whose interest in native plants was born from a desire to build a deeper relationship with the world around him and the discovery that studying regional flora was a great way to do this. \nWhen:  Thursday\, February 5th\, 7:00 to 8:00pm\nWhere: Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center\, 127 S. Mission St.\, Wenatchee \nFor more information Click Here.

SUMMARY:Washington Native Plant Society- Northeast Washington Flowers
DESCRIPTION:Wenatchee Valley: Northeast Washington Flowers – A floristic tour of ecoregions and habitats \nThe Northeastern corner of our state from Spokane to the Canadian and Idaho borders has its own floral mix\, with influences from the Rocky Mountains\, British Columbia\, the Palouse and more.  We will explore what makes this region distinct from the rest of Washington and construct a sense of place with an appreciation of both classic-friend plants and regional specialties. \nAbout the presenter: Elliot Robison is the incoming Chapter Chair for the WNPS Northeast Chapter.  He is a relatively recent hobby botanist whose interest in native plants was born from a desire to build a deeper relationship with the world around him and the discovery that studying reginal flora was a great way to do this. \nDate: February 5\, 2026 at 7:00 pm \nLocation:  Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center \nEvent Link

SUMMARY:WRI Wildlife Tracking: Searching for Nature's Stories
DESCRIPTION:Join local tracker Kirk Beckendorf and WRI Community Programs Educator Virginia Shoup for a beginner and family-friendly introduction to wildlife tracking! \nJoin generations of trackers who have learned to tell the stories of our animal neighbors by studying the signs they leave behind. Even when we don’t see the critters that move through the landscape\, their tracks\, scat\, scratch marks\, and more can tell us what they’re doing. Throughout the day we will learn about tracks\, gait\, and other wildlife signs as we journey through the local area to see what stories wildlife signs can tell us. Our day will be mostly spent outside\, with a couple of lessons inside. We will walk around the Wenatchee River Institute campus as well as travel to a couple of other local spots. Depending on group size\, there will be the option to ride in the WRI van or carpool to other locations. Locations will be determined closer to the event to allow for the best opportunities\, but will be within a 30 minute drive. \nAges: Second grade and up. Adults without kids welcome too!\nChildren 15 and younger must be accompanied by a participating adult. Please note that we welcome children and recognize that you know your child best. We will spend much of the day outside moving at a slow pace. Children should be able to stay with the group and be comfortable outside in variable weather\, as well as be respectful of instructors and learning time. \nRegistration for this event is required. Limit 20 participants. \nCost is Pay What You Can \n$60/person\nThis option may be for you if you are excited to attend this program and are able to pay the market rate so WRI can offer future programming at affordable rates\, including our free events. \n$45/person \nThis option may be for you if you are excited to support WRI\, and attending this program doesn’t put a strain on your weekly budget. This covers the break-even cost for WRI to put on this particular program. \n$30/person\nThis option may be for you if your budget is tight\, but you still really want to attend this program and support WRI. \nClick here for more information and to Register. \n\n\n\n\n\nCONTACT INFO\nVirginia Shoup\nvshoup@wenatcheeriverinstitute.org\n509-548-0181\, x5
