From the days at Beehive\, to Misson Ridge Lodge\, to Ancient Lakes\, and then Squilchuck the last few years. \nWe have seen Mother Nature flex her muscles over the years! From rain\, to Blazing Heat\, to smoke\, and\, of course\, SNOW! When Mother Nature wants to show you who’s the boss\, she can! \nWith all the fun over the years\, I’ve heard grumblings from locals that the Darkside lost the organic feel that it did so many years ago… that MAYBE we “fixed” something that didn’t need fixin’… \n…so this year\, we are going organic. Back to being a ride. Back to standing around a campfire after the ride\, with a hot dog and a coldy\, catching up with new and old friends. Back to NEEDING a light for the ride. Back to celebrating mountain biking in the Wenatchee Valley. It just feels right… \nOur plan is to have it at #2. We are talking with the FS about it\, so not 100% nailed down. We will get you checked in\, and head out around 6 30 ish up Stairway to our First stop at the Shark Fin to catch the sun set at 6 50 pm\, and watch night fall onto the city. Our other stops will be dependent on what trails get built over the upcoming summer. \nWe will all return to stand by the fire\, roast a dog\, raise a glass of cheer to each other\, to our community\, and to Mountain Biking in the Valley! \nWe will get registration up and running later\, but wanted everyone to get this on their calendar! \nBEST in health to you and your family! \n

She will also facilitate an exercise in ekphrastic poetry that invites us to imagine ourselves in a place and to use our imaginings for discovery and connection. The media covered include photography\, collage\, drawing\, poetry and more. For maximum learning and fun\, you may bring images you find influential and moving to trigger the process she’ll be teaching. \nYou’ll be shown how to create ekphrastic writing – a vivid description of a scene or a work of art – and there will be opportunities for participants to share their work with the group. Thank you. \nHosted by Ted Driven \nThis is a stunningly beautiful course in the scenic town of Leavenworth. Marathoners will start near the renown Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area. Runners will run a loop through Icicle Canyon\, the Bavarian Village of Leavenworth and through wooded riverfront trails on mixed surfaces of asphalt and dirt trails. Surrounded by impressive mountains\, keep your eyes open for salmon spawning in the Wenatchee River and Icicle Creek. The half marathon event welcomes both runners and walkers. The marathon is limited to runners who will complete the course within the six-hour time limit. The half marathon course is open for four hours. Leavenworth is Washington’s “Bavarian Village” located 2 hours east of the Puget Sound bordering the Wenatchee National Forest and Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area. Oktoberfest is Leavenworth’s biggest festival of the year with 3 weeks of music\, parades\, food (and of course\, beverages) and activities for children and adults. DESCRIPTION:On October 10\, 2020\, Serve Wenatchee Valley is bringing back their community event “Light the LOOP”\, only this year it is going to have a different look and goal! “We plan to coordinate lighting the entire 9.6 miles of loop trail”\, says Thom Nees\, Executive Director of Serve Wenatchee Valley. “We are inviting our communities to come together and stand in solidarity hand-in-hand or 6’ apart (depending on what phase the counties will be in and in cooperation with the local health district) to celebrate where we are as a Sign of HOPE!” \nLocal organizations\, businesses\, and churches are invited to adopt a 1/8-mile section of the loop within the circle from Chelan County’s Walla Walla Point Park southward across the Columbia River on the Pedestrian Bridge\, down the paved trail north on the waterfront of East Wenatchee\, crossing the Odabashian Bridge (Highway 97) on the north side of town\, and back to the western side. \nWe will begin to gather at 5:30PM\, get into place and light the loop at 7:17PM. Residents who cannot attend in person are invited to shine their light and sound their HOPE from their own homes at the 7:17PM mark. We are working with local media outlets in order to promote and broadcast the event live on radio\, television\, and online digital channels. Our goal is for everyone in our Valley to stop and join together in HOPE as we emerge from this pandemic. \nThe event is being coordinated by an expanding group of community leaders currently including: Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce\, Digital Media Northwest\, Wenatchee Downtown Association\, Impact! This makes the pile easier to pull apart to feed the chipper. \n-Max pile height is 5 feet. \n-Individual cut pieces must not be thicker than 8″ in diameter. \n-Stack similar sized items together in piles. Please pile items by hand. \n-Debris should not be blocking any traffic. \n-Chipping will occur in mid to late October. \nPlease track your hours preparing for the chipping crew. Hint: it’s an explosive geological feature. That’s right – our many active volcanoes! From Mt. Baker and Glacier Peak in the north to Mts. Rainier\, Adams and St. Helens\, these iconic glacier-clad peaks of the Cascade Range are part of a 800 mile-long chain of volcanoes\, according to the USGS\, extending from northern California to southern British Columbia. \n\n\n\n“The volcanoes are the result of the slow slide of dense oceanic crust as it sinks beneath North America (subduction)\, which releases water and melts overlying rock\,” the geological agency explains. “Cascade volcanoes have erupted in the recent past and will erupt again.”Join science educator Gina Roberti for an interactive online presentation which will provide you the tools to observe and understand volcanic processes. Become acquainted with the volcanoes in our region and why we have so much volcanic activity concentrated in this part of the world. You’ll also gain awareness of volcanic hazards to serve as an informed community member. \nIn this virtual program\, we’ll use satellite images and aerial photography to make observations of the major stratovolcanoes of the Cascades range. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center \nJoin us virtually as Wenatchi/P’squosa elder Randy Lewis presents a traditional blessing of water and salmon. One of the Plateau tribes’ most significant ceremonies is the First Salmon Feast\, marking the arrival of salmon to traditional fishing grounds. Lewis\, the great-great-grandson of Sam Miller\, founder of the Miller-Freer Trading Post\, the anchor to the original City of Wenatchee\, will retell origin stories related to the Creator’s calling of a grand council of the plants and animals to help feed and care for the newest of creations: humans. \nWenatchee Valley Museum members are invited to participate in a feast of salmon\, part of the traditional tribal religion in the Columbia Basin that reinforces the central role salmon and water play for Columbia Basin tribal people in your own home.  With a series of videos\, we will lead you through building a traditional fire pit as well as preparing and cooking the salmon.  Randy will then present the traditional blessing live and you are invited to participate via Zoom. \nYou decide on how much or how little you would like to participate\, whether you go all out and build the fire pit or just cook the fish in your oven\, you won’t want to miss Randy’s retelling of the origin story or the moving and sacred blessing of water and salmon. We will share work at the end of the workshop with lots of positive feedback and helpful suggestions. \nCost: $53 members\, $60 non-members\nLimit of 12 participants\nAfter registering\, you will receive the Zoom link information \nWatercolor Supply List:\n**NOTE: the materials you already have at home are fine! The only item Molly suggests you buy is Arches 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper.\n-Drawing pencil HB (for watercolor under sketches) \n-Artist eraser\, white Mars plastic (made by Staedtler) \n-Paper: Arches 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper\, 100% rag cut to your preferred size for painting. Check out the new horizontal and square format blocks\, too. \n-Lightweight board for paper mounting for ease of painting if you use single sheets with clips or rubber bands. \n-Brushes: Sable or sable/synthetic blend watercolor brushes: #12\, #6\, and #4 round\, ¾” flat.\nOther sizes and types are optional. Do not buy a synthetic brush in #12 or #8 size: they are too stiff and do not lay smooth washes. Synthetics are fine for #4 and smaller sizes. I like Da Vinci Maestro sable rounds the best\, but they are expensive. A sable/synthetic blend works well and is cheaper. This painting is inspired by the book Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson. We’ll be painting a Magic Tree on four 12 x 12 tiles; each tile depicts the tree in a different season and once complete the tiles fit together for one amazing 24 x 24 piece of custom art. You can gather three of your family members and each paint your favorite season\, or paint all four tiles yourself. Either way the goal is to be creative and have fun! \nThe cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members and includes all art supplies\, a recipe for Thanksgiving Punch to make and enjoy while you paint\, and a link to the step-by-step video instructions that allow you to follow along and paint at your own pace.
