The presentation will start at 7:00pm. \n\n\n\nAre you someone who frequents risk-inherent environments like the mountains? Join us for a community engaged mental health discussion in the Red Barn. Instructors\, Aimee Huffman and Sasha Dingle\, will explore the power of mind-body training like breathwork\, yoga\, meditation\, and nervous system regulation exercises. We’ll talk about how these practices can impact stress resilience and improve performance and help first responders and outdoor athletes recover from traumatic events. \n\n\n\nAimee Huffman is a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT)\, trauma-informed yoga teacher (E-RYT 500)\, health coach (ACE) and former Division 1 athlete. She specializes in using the lens of Polyvagal Theory and nervous system regulation techniques to elevate human health and performance. She helps leaders\, educators and competitive athletes develop the mental fitness\, nervous system stamina and emotional intelligence needed to thrive in fast-paced and demanding settings. Aimee has facilitated group mindfulness\, yoga and mental training sessions in education\, healthcare\, technology and sports since 2016. \n\n\n\nwww.aimeehuffman.com \n\n\n\nSasha Dingle is a skier turned meditation teacher and the founder and director of Mountain Mind Project. She is a qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher from the University of California Sand Diego School of Medicine Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Insitute (MBPTI). Since 2015\, she has taught meditation in healthcare\, sports performance\, and leadership to audiences as varied as St. John’s Health Oncology and Diabetes\, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort\, and MIT. Sasha is the meditation teacher in Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence video courses\, a U.S. Department of State Fulbright Fellow to Vietnam and a Mind & Life Summer Research Institute Fellow. All birding skill levels are welcome. Need binoculars? We have loaner binoculars that you can borrow. \nThis is a great opportunity to learn about eBird\, the largest biodiversity-related community science project in the world\, and utilize it to record our observations of local wild birds. Total walking distance is ½ mile\, over a gravel path with two moderate hills. Come prepared for the weather. These walks will happen on the second Wednesday of each month for the whole year. Join us for as many as you can! \nTrail difficulty level: beginner\nTrail is wide enough for ADA access\, but trails are gravel\nBathrooms available at the start and end of the walk \nMeet outside the River Haus at 8am and plan to be finished by 9:30am. DESCRIPTION:The Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet Tuesday\, June 11 at 7:00 PM\, at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center\, 127 S. Mission\, Wenatchee. Or via Zoom link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84520197937 \n\n\n\nOur speaker will be Philip Long of the Lake Chelan Research Institute (LCRI). Phil will talk about “Exploration of Geomorphic Features in Lake Chelan with an Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV)”Swath bathymetry\, chirp sub-bottom reflection profiles\, and sediment cores…. These were techniques recently used by the U.S. Geological Survey (June 2023) to collect data from Lake Chelan\, WA\,  The resulting information has provided insights into late- and post-glacial history of Lake Chelan. In addition\, LCRI’s ROV dives have distinguished bedrock from till on lake bottom sediment profiles\, and have directly observed landslide scarps\, debris aprons\, and other geomorphic features of interest to many of us here. Some of the features on the bottom of Lake Chelan resemble surface glacial features we are familiar with  on the Waterville Plateau! Moraines\, kames\, drumlins\, kettles\, underwater landslides…. \n\n\n\nFind out what’s going on at the bottom Lake Chelan! \n\n\n\nThe program is free and open to the public.

This class is a wildlife track and sign evaluation through CyberTracker North America. David’s approach to this class is highly interactive\, engaging participants in identification and interpretation of tracks and signs. Lots of time for questions and discussion is built in. This style is an excellent way to learn and investigate\, with the chance to achieve a wildlife tracking certificate through CyberTracker North America. Certificates are awarded on three levels. You will not want to miss this opportunity! \n\n\n\nCyberTracker classes provide an opportunity for quality\, focused learning from some of the best trackers in the country. They are designed to further participant’s tracking knowledge\, as well as to rigorously test and document their current tracking skill set. Originally designed to help African Bushmen gain employment on game preserves\, they also provide an internationally recognized certification of tracking ability\, an important credential for wildlife researchers and environmental educators as well as for people who want to test and push their own ability. Evaluations are entirely field based\, striving to expose participants to the widest range of tracks and signs as possible. Discussions are encouraged\, giving participants a chance to air their thoughts and receive individualized instruction. \n\n\n\nCost: $425 non-members\, $375 membersFood and lodging not included.Limit of 10 participantsTrail difficulty\, some off-trail travel\, up and down ridgelines. \n\n\n\nTo make these programs more accessible\, TCNA has made funds available for individuals from historically marginalized communities. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a field trip to a ponderosa pine dry forest site to learn more about land management and fire risk reduction. This site\, managed by Tyler Larson as a family forest\, has had a variety of fuel reduction treatments including a prescribed burn in October 2023. Participants will learn the basics of conducting a forest inventory and how stocking density is measured. We will also showcase some examples of wildlife habitat that has been created through this process. \n\n\n\nFREE to attend\, registration required. \n\n\n\nThe location is 50 minutes from Leavenworth in the Teanaway\, and will be provided after registration. \n\n\n\nWe will be walking for a few hours through easy to moderate terrain. \n\n\n\nPlease bring your own food and water for the field trip.

The presentation will start at 7:00pm. Red Barn Events are now hybrid; you may join us in person in the Red Barn or livestream virtually. \nPacific Northwest forests face catastrophic losses from wildfire\, drought\, extreme temperatures\, and insect mortality. This is largely as a result of climate change and historic land management practices. On top of that\, these forest ecosystems now face a crisis of biodiversity loss\, which threatens their integrity and the services they provide. Family forest landowners own 15% of forested land in Washington – roughly 3.2 million acres – and they can mitigate many of these threats to their forests through active management. Using a private forest in the Teanaway as a case study\, it will be outlined the steps that forest landowners can take to create and steward healthy\, resilient landscapes that provide benefits for people\, wildlife\, and the environment. It will be shared what the process is of determining management goals\, understanding the current state of a forest\, and implementing a variety of tools and techniques to increase tree vigor\, provide high quality wildlife habitat\, and restore the historic fire regime. \nThis presentation will be accompanied by a field trip to one of the ponderosa pine dry forest sites that is managed. We will tour the forest which has had a variety of fuels reduction treatments including a prescribed burn in October 2023. Participants will learn the basics of conducting a forest inventory and how stocking density is measured. We will be hosting plant foraging workshops to introduce people to the abundance of local plants and their edible\, medicinal\, and functional uses. Each workshop will feature a new plant at its unique harvest time. Participants will learn hands-on how to identify\, harvest\, propagate\, and make use of the plant. Our goal is to empower people to respectfully and reciprocally engage with the plants that live here.\n\n\n\nNettle is a highly nutritious plant with a history of uses for traditional medicine\, food\, tea\, and as a material for textiles. Known as “stinging” nettle it has small stinging hairs that inject a chemical which can lead to a rash or stinging burn if touched. These hairs can be neutralized when soaked or cooked allowing for the many uses of this plant. \nRegistration required.\nSpace is limited\, so sign up fast! Class size: 15\nCost is Pay What You Can.
