You will learn how to be a better observer of nature and be introduced to river safety and navigation. We will be hosting plant foraging workshops to introduce people to the abundance of local plants and their edible\, medicinal\, and functional uses. Each workshop will feature a new plant at its unique harvest time. Participants will learn hands-on how to identify\, harvest\, propagate\, and make use of the plant. Our goal is to empower people to respectfully and reciprocally engage with the plants that live here.\n\n\n\nNettle is a highly nutritious plant with a history of uses for traditional medicine\, food\, tea\, and as a material for textiles. Known as “stinging” nettle it has small stinging hairs that inject a chemical which can lead to a rash or stinging burn if touched. These hairs can be neutralized when soaked or cooked allowing for the many uses of this plant. \nRegistration required.\nSpace is limited\, so sign up fast! Class size: 15\nCost is Pay What You Can. We have loaner binoculars that you can borrow. \n\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to learn about eBird\, the largest biodiversity-related community science project in the world\, and utilize it to record our observations of local wild birds. \n\n\n\nTotal walking distance is approximately 2 miles\, over a mostly flat and gravel path with some slight hills. Come prepared for the weather. This event will happen rain or shine! \n\n\n\nTrail difficulty level: beginnerTrail is wide enough for ADA access\, but trails are mostly gravel and compact earth.Bathrooms available near the parking lot at the start and end of the walk. \n\n\n\nMeet in the north parking lot of Walla Walla Point Park\, near the restrooms and playground at 7:30am. Become a Weed Warrior! \n\n\n\nCDLT staff hand-pull weeds in the restoration area near the concrete slab where the barn used to be at Horse Lake Reserve. In the Fall of 2023\, we planted native grass seedlings. We will hand-pull weeds to give grasses a better chance to survive.  \n\n\n\nGloves\, kneeling pads\, trowels\, and snacks will be provided! \n\n\n\n*All work parties are weather and conditions dependent. A guided walk is offered for every event in the series. Arrive anytime between 9am-11am to walk the trails and receive a raffle ticket entry to win amazing health focused prizes. The guided walk for this date will begin at 9:15am and end at 11:00am. During the guided walk you will learn about the area’s plants\, wildlife\, and history. The event is open to all ages and will be led in both English and Spanish.
