SUMMARY:Wildlife of the Entiat River
DESCRIPTION:Title: Wildlife of the Entiat River | Vida Silvestre del río Entiat \nDate: Sat\, 10/14/2023 \nTime: 8:00am-1:00pm \nLocation: Stormy Creek Preserve in Entiat\, WA \nThis event is hosted by the Chelan Douglas Land Trust and Cascadia Conservation District \nDescription: The Entiat River Valley’s dramatic landscape is home to a variety of native plants and wildlife. The river begins at Entiat Glacier\, and its clear waters are one of the most productive spawning grounds for endangered spring Chinook salmon\, threatened steelhead\, threatened bull trout\, and fall Chinook salmon. More than 8 miles of riverfront and 651 acres of riparian habitat are permanently preserved by the Land Trust along the Entiat River Watershed. These protection efforts provide respite for spawning fish\, habitat for wildlife\, and allows the river to follow its natural meandering course. During this event you will visit some of these protected areas as we look for signs of wildlife\, see recently completed beaver dam analog restoration\, and observe and learn about the spawning salmon. All ages are welcome and there is no cost to attend the event. Stormy Creek Preserve is 40 minutes from Wenatchee in Entiat. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Elisa Lopez from CDLT at elisa@cdlandtrust.org 509-667-9708 or Mark Ingman from Cascadia Conservation District at marki@cascadiacd.org (509) 436-1601. SUMMARY:Glaciated Landscape
DESCRIPTION:The Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute’s next program will be on Tuesday\, October 10 at 7:00 PM at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center\, 127 South Mission St.\, Wenatchee.  \n\n\n\nDr. Ralph Dawes\, Professor of Earth Science\, Wenatchee Valley College\, will discuss the “Glaciated landscape that formed beneath the Okanogan Lobe of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet” in north central Washington. This area\, including Douglas County north of Waterville and all of Okanogan County\, was studied early in the last century by well-known geologists J Harlan Bretz\, Richard Foster Flint\, and Aaron C. Waters. How the ice sheet shaped the landscape underneath it was a source of controversy back then\, and remains a subject of scientific debate today.    \n\n\n\nDr. Dawes takes a four-part approach addressing the origin of the Okanogan landscape:  \n\n\n\n\nRead published geologic studies of the Okanogan Lobe and Cordilleran Ice Sheet;\n\n\n\nlearn latest theories of how ice sheets create landforms;\n\n\n\nuse current online map data; and \n\n\n\nground-truth to examine the evidence itself.  \n\n\n\n\nYou can attend in-person at the Museum\, or via Zoom link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84520197937
