SUMMARY:Deconstruction & Reuse with Waste Loop
DESCRIPTION:Streaming link: https://youtube.com/live/EL4O53nu-uM?feature=share \nThis event is hosted by Wenatchee River Institute and Waste Loop \nThis is a hybrid event from the Red Barn at WRI in Leavenworth and the youtube channel above \nThis is a FREE event with a donation basket at the door.\nDoors open at 6:30pm for a community social with beer and wine available for purchase. Join us for this Red Barn Event to learn from experts in this growing industry\, as well as opportunities to get involved in Waste Loop’s reuse center opening soon in Cashmere! \nHave you ever finished a remodel and been astounded with how much waste was generated in the process? The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 230 million to 600 million tons of construction and demolition waste are produced nationwide each year in the United States. Fortunately\, there are increasingly more options to source high quality used building materials that have been sourced from the deconstruction of other buildings. Waste Loop is proud to present on the critical issue of current building practices and showcase the transformative impact of deconstruction services and reuse facilities on waste reduction. Discover the rise of reuse facilities as integral players in creating a sustainable construction ecosystem\, breathing new life into materials that would otherwise contribute to landfills. Waste Loop strives to create a closed-loop system that minimizes waste and maximizes resource efficiency. \nFor more information click here.

SUMMARY:Our Native Bees (& Other Pollinators)
DESCRIPTION:Event Title:\nOur Native Bees (and Other Pollinators) with David Jennings\n\nEvent Schedule:\n5-6:15 pm: Dinner\, benefitting the Community Cultural Center of Tonasket\n6:30 pm: Finding Our Native Bees presentation\, free to the public\n\nLocation:\nCommunity Cultural Center of Tonasket. 411 S Western Ave Tonasket\, WA 98855\n\nEvent Description:\n\nMost of our native bees are so small and fast-moving that we often don’t notice them\, or if we do\, we don’t recognize them as bees. Estimates are that we have upwards of 650 species of native bees here in Washington State\, but only about 500 have been identified to species. Yet bees are a keystone species: without them\, whole ecosystems falter. David will provide an overview of pollination\, explain why native bees are vital\, and share identification tips for common bumble bees. Join in a discussion on how we can meaningfully support our local pollinators.  \nDavid Jennings has an academic background in wildlife ecology and conservation from the University of Georgia and a MPH in Biostatistics from the University of Oklahoma. He is a former WA State Fish and Wildlife Commissioner. David is the current President of the Washington Native Bee Society\, and a past president of the Washington Butterfly Association and the Gifford Pinchot Task Force. Currently\, he also serves on Black Hills Audubon Society’s conservation committee.
