SUMMARY:Sasquatch: Man-Ape or Myth?
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, June 13\, 2018 – 7:00pm\n\n\nLocation: The Barn @ Barn Beach Reserve\, 347 Division Street\, Leavenworth\, WA\nWenatchee River Institute\n\n\n\n\nADMISSION BY DONATION\, ALL AGES WELCOME! \nDOORS OPEN AT 6:30PM FOR NO HOST REFRESHMENTS \n\nThroughout the Northwest\, people have been reporting encounters with the Sasquatch—a hairy\, eight- to ten-foot-tall hominid—for hundreds of years. Yet aside from a collection of large footprint casts and a sizable assemblage of eyewitness accounts\, some attributable to the earliest humans in the Northwest\, no scientifically accepted evidence has been offered to establish this being’s existence.\n\nAuthor David George Gordon evaluates the data gathered about the legendary Northwest icon\, discusses the rules of critical thinking and the workings of the scientific method\, and explains how one can become an effective “citizen scientist” by gathering credible evidence that can be used to substantiate the Sasquatch’s status as either Man-Ape or Myth. Attendees are encouraged to tell their tales and share their experiences with this mysterious creature.\n\nhttps://www.humanities.org/speaker/david-george-gordon-2/

SUMMARY:Shake\, Rattle & Rebound
DESCRIPTION:Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7:00 P.M.\, Tuesday\, June 12 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum\, 127 South Mission\, Wenatchee. \n“Shake\, Rattle & Rebound” \nThe speaker\, Sandi Doughton\, is the award-winning science-writer for the Seattle Times and author of Full Rip 9.0: The Next Big Earthquake in the Pacific Northwest. She notes\, “Over the past three decades\, geologists have re-examined earthquake risk in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks to their work\, we now know the region faces more powerful and a greater variety of earthquakes than even quake-prone California. But what are we doing to get ready? Preparedness efforts here greatly lag our neighbor to the south. We’re starting to make progress\, but there’s a lot we can—and should—be doing to reduce damage when Big One hits. Japan\, Chile and other countries have shown that taking steps to strengthen roads and utilities and make buildings safer\, reduces damage\, speeds recovery and saves lives. There’s no reason we can’t do the same thing in the Pacific Northwest – all we need is political and public support.” \nThe program is free & open to the public. \nFor overviews of the Ice Age Floods and more information on the Ice Age Floods Institute\, please see our website: http://www.iafi.org; http://www.hugefloods.com; and quadricopter videos of Ice Age features\, http://www.brucebjornstad.com.
