SUMMARY:POSTPONED- Red Barn Event- Enchantments: What Comes Next?
DESCRIPTION:This event has been POSTPONED\, future date TBD.  \nWenatchee River Institute presents this hybrid Enchantment event\, will be offered in person and livestream via YouTube Channel. \nStreaming link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmaKfMFofyc&list=PLjATQxBXvvgXSiC_qr24e5jmPS-LyJ5T9&index=34 \nNo registration required\, but RSVP to receive email reminders and updates about this event! \nDoors open at 6:30pm for a community social with beer and wine available for purchase. The presentation will start at 7:00pm. \nAfter a summer of overcrowding and understaffing in The Enchantments\, the issue of day use management has reached an inflection point. Will this offseason present an opportunity to make changes along the Icicle Creek corridor\, and if so\, what will they entail? Hear from Seattle Times outdoors reporter Gregory Scruggs\, who covered the issue closely this summer and traveled to Colorado to learn how another mountain town grappled with a similar challenge\, along with Mat Lyons\, Executive Director of TREAD\, who has been working with Chelan County stakeholders on a proposal for alternative transportation options to Enchantments trailheads\, and Sarah Shaffer\, Executive Director of Wenatchee Outdoors\, who will share insights on the on-the-ground work with over 40 volunteers in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service\, packing out pounds of trash from the Enchantments Wilderness area. \nAbout the presenters:\nGregory Scruggs (he/him) is the outdoors reporter at The Seattle Times\, where he writes about the intersection of recreation\, land management and the outdoor industry in Washington. His coverage takes him deep into the Cascades and out on the Salish Sea. In 2022\, he won the President’s Award in the newspaper category from the Outdoor Writers Association of America. \nMat Lyons (he/him) is the Executive Director of TREAD\, a nonprofit that collaborate with all partners to drive sustainable outdoor recreation initiatives in North Central Washington. \nSarah Shaffer (she/her) is the Executive Director of Wenatchee Outdoors\, a nonprofit focused on engaging volunteers and the community in stewardship and recreation in North Central Washington. \nEvent Link to RSVP

SUMMARY:Red Barn Event: Stories from Lake Chelan
DESCRIPTION:Wenatchee River Institute Presents Red Barn Event: Stories from Lake Chelan \nStreaming link: https://www.youtube.com/live/VA3NCsC1448?si=DZVKJuwUFSwKPVDq \nNo registration required\, but RSVP to receive email reminders and updates about this event! \nDoors open at 6:30pm for a community social with beer and wine available for purchase. The presentation will start at 7:00pm. \nJoin the Lake Chelan Research Institute to hear geological\, environmental\, and human stories from the Lake Chelan Watershed\, while learning about potential threats to the lake’s ecology and opportunities to restore and steward the lake into the future. With aerial and underwater photography from Cashmere’s Steven Gnam (National Geographic\, Crown of the Continent)\, and contributions from the Lake Chelan Research Institute’s Anna Galipeau and Phil Long\, this presentation is sure to provide new perspectives on the ever-changing ecological treasure that is Lake Chelan. \nAbout the presenter: Nate Hough-Snee is a Leavenworth\, Washington-based wetland\, aquatic\, and riparian ecologist who researches and restores ecosystems across the Pacific Northwest. Trained as a researcher\, and with a Ph.D. in Ecology from Utah State University’s Watershed Sciences Department\, Nate is an environmental storyteller at heart. Nate currently spins environmental narratives of the Wenatchee and Entiat watersheds\, Lake Chelan\, and Washington’s Olympic Peninsula\, working with the Lake Chelan Research Institute as a senior scientist and as a consultant through his firm\, Meadow Run Environmental. Recently Nate has increasingly focused his attention on understanding how Lake Chelan is changing from periphyton\, invasive species\, and how threats to the watershed might change the Lake. Most of Nate’s ecosystem stories from Lake Chelan are told about water\, plants\, and people and with enough humor to have a good time. \nEvent Link \n\n\n\n\n\nCONTACT INFO\nVirginia Shoup\nvshoup@wenatcheeriverinstitute.org\n509-548-0181\, ext 5

SUMMARY:Fish War
DESCRIPTION:The 2025-26 Film and Speaker Series presents: Fish War \nThe Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center is honored to host a screening of the award-winning documentary Fish Waron Thursday\, Nov. 13\, at 6 PM. \nFilm Description: \nWhen the state of Washington made it illegal for tribes to fish for salmon in their usual and accustomed places\, it was a declaration of war. FISH WAR follows the tribes’ fight to exercise their treaty-reserved fishing rights. A landmark court case in 1974 would affirm the tribes’ treaty rights and establish them as co-managers of the resource\, but the fate of salmon in the Pacific Northwest still hangs in the balance. \nFollowing the screening\, the Indigenous Roots and Reparation Foundation (IRRF) will host a Q&A panel discussing the impacts of this film. \nAdmission is free for both WVMCC and tribal members and $5 for non-members. Registration is recommended. \nFor More information Click Here \nREGISTER HERE \nFunds from this event support the Museum’s mission-serving programs\, including featured exhibits\, MakerSpace\, robotics clubs\, field trips\, student scholarships\, community cultural events\, film and speaker series\, and collection restorations.  \nFish War was produced by Wenatchee-based documentary film company\, North 40 Productions. The 2025-26 Film & Speaker Series is supported by the City of Wenatchee and the City of East Wenatchee.
