SUMMARY:Ice Age Flood Controversies-Past and Present
DESCRIPTION:Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7:00 P.M.\, Tuesday\, August 14 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum\, 127 South Mission\, Wenatchee. \nVic Baker\, Professor of Planetary and Geosciences\, U. of Arizona\, and long-time Friend of the Erratics\, will discuss “Ice-Age Flood Controversies: Past and Present.” Catastrophic flooding has invoked controversy ever since the beginning of geological sciences. Disputes concerning the mega-flood origins of eastern Washington’s Channeled Scabland began a century ago with research by J Harlen Bretz (1882-1981) and Joseph Thomas Pardee (1871-1960). Debate has continued over the 50 years that Dr. Baker has been studying the area. This talk will provide an update on recent discoveries\, with some reflections on both the past and future science of catastrophic floods.

The Festival is held on the grounds of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery\, located at the mouth of the scenic Icicle Canyon near Leavenworth\, Washington. \nOur theme this year is “Salmon On the Move!”. An exciting menu of hands-on activities and “edutainment” gives students from throughout North Central Washington a unique opportunity to discover and appreciate the complexities of the natural world and the significance of salmon to people of the northwest. \nFor more information click here.
