Come learn about this adventure and this northern wilderness with Robbie Scott\, Neal Hedges\, Paul Hessburg\, and Andy Dappen. \nThrough the power of pictures\, they will expose you to a beautiful and remote corner of the world complete with big lakes\, boiling rapids\, Arctic char\, muskox herds\, wolf packs\, and billions upon billions of bugs! The show is complemented by the cowboy poetry of the adventure written by Paul Hessburg\, the team’s poet laureate.

Heather will discuss this special area’s importance to forests\, birds\, mammals and salmon. Stops on the tour will also highlight the American Indian and historical use of the land and current conservation projects. We’ll have a chance to warm up at Tall Timber Ranch Lodge halfway through the day. \nSnowshoers should be able to walk for 4 hours on snowshoes in winter weather over difficult terrain. Backcountry skiers could attend if experienced in off-track skiing with appropriate equipment. Please bring snowshoes or skis and poles\, layers\, safety gear\, hat\, gloves\, sunglasses\, snacks and water. Some loaner snowshoes may be available. Binoculars and field guides would be very helpful. No dogs\, please. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to eat lunch at Tall Timber Ranch’s Lodge ($9) or bring their own sack lunch. Hot drinks will be available for a small donation through Tall Timber Ranch as well. This film explores the eccentric nature of the contestants who enter each year for a chance at wildlife art stardom\, while also reflecting upon the history and challenges facing the continued existence of this successful conservation program. Duck stamps and duck stamp art will be on display and information handouts available.

DESCRIPTION:Get outside\, learn about birds and explore this beautiful natural area in the Entiat Valley. \nJoin us and biologist and Land Trust site steward Phil Archibald and Virginia Palumbo of the North Central Washington Audubon Society to participate in the Annual Great Backyard Bird Count at Stormy Creek Preserve on February 17\, 2018 from 10 am to 12 pm. \nFrom the Great Backyard Bird Count website: \nThe Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a free\, fun\, and easy event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. Participants are asked to count birds for as little as 15 minutes (or as long as they wish) on one or more days of the four-day event and report their sightings online at birdcount.org . Anyone can take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count\, from beginning bird watchers to experts\, and you can participate from your backyard\, or anywhere in the world. \nWe will be holding the bird count\, and Phil will share his knowledge from years of data collection and observation at Stormy Creek. Length and level of intensity will depend on snow conditions. After the count\, join Virginia for an exploration of the Preserve. Snowshoes may be necessary. \nPlease register online. DESCRIPTION:Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort and Badger Mountain Brewing will host Rails & Ales presented by Numerica Credit Union at 5:30 pm\, Friday\, February 16th\, in Wenatchee. \nMission Ridge Ski & Board resort will literally bring the mountain to the people by delivering truckloads of fresh snow to the heart of downtown Wenatchee. The snow will be used to hold a rail jam competition\, featuring some of the region’s top skiers and snowboarder’s\, where cash prizes will be handed out to the top performers in both men’s and women’s categories. In addition\, the event includes a craft beer garden\, set up in front of Badger Mountain Brewing\, featuring local breweries and highlighting the Wenatchee Brewers Row. An after-party and live music from the Northshore Band will follow the rail jam competition inside the brewery. \n“Wenatchee sits at the doorstep of the Mission Ridge ski area as well as seemingly endless outdoor recreation opportunities\,” said Mission Ridge Marketing Director Tony Hickok. “Rails & Ales celebrates the winter season\, the connection between the Mission Ridge and this town\, and our community’s passion for skiing and snowboarding.” \nRails & Ales presented by Numerica Credit Union is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Icicle Creek Glaciers & Upper Valley Erratics
DESCRIPTION:Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7:00 P.M.\, Tuesday\, February 13 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum\, 127 South Mission\, Wenatchee. \nIcicle Creek Glaciers and Upper Valley Erratics\n\nGlaciers from Icicle Creek advanced multiple times over the past several hundred thousand years and left deposits near Leavenworth. Some thought lakes or slack water from Glacial Lake Missoula outburst floods deposited the boulders lying between Leavenworth and Peshastin. The late local geologist Bill Long collected data about these boulders\, and others near Wenatchee\, during the 1960s to 1980s. That data tell a different story about Icicle Creek glaciers and the location of past termini.
