Spend the weekend skiing and riding all the blue runs on the mountain. Then turn in your punch card when you finish all the blue runs or are finished for the day to the admin office. DESCRIPTION:Join us in the MakerSpace during the month of April for Science on Saturdays. Saturday\, April 2 at 10:30 AM is our composting class! Join us together with Betsy and Jana from Sustainable Wenatchee for this class on vermicomposting. Vermicomposting is a great way to learn the basics of indoor composting\, using Red Wiggler worms to create nutrient-rich worm castings and compost. In this class\, we will make an indoor compost bin and learn what to put in our compost\, and how to keep your worms happy and healthy.   \nThe recommended age for this class is 8 and older\, and each child will need to be accompanied by an adult as we will be using a drill to create holes in our compost bin.   \nCost is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers. Registration is required and will close at noon on April 1st.

DESCRIPTION:This event is hosted by the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center \nJoin us in the MakerSpace during the month of April for Science on Saturdays. Saturday\, April 9 is Owl Pellet Dissection. Owls swallow their prey whole\, but cannot fully digest some items such as bones and teeth. These indigestible items are then compacted into a pellet that the owl spits out. We can learn a lot about owls and their diets by dissecting these pellets. In this Science on Saturday program\, you’ll be able to dissect an owl pellet and investigate for yourself what they ate. You’ll begin to identify the indigestible pieces left behind in the pellet and learn to categorize them. These pellets have been sterilized so that we can have safe fun learning the science behind owl pellets.  \nThis class is recommended for kids 10 and up. Each child needs to have an adult present. Preregistration is not required\, but encouraged as there are a limited number of spots which will be filled first-come\, first-served while supplies last.   \nCost is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers \nThis class will be offered at 10:30 AM\, 11:30 AM and 2 PM.

SUMMARY:How Are Mountains Made?
DESCRIPTION:The Wenatchee Valley Erratics\, Ice Age Floods Institute’s next Zoom program will be on Tuesday\, April 12 at 7:00 PM. Dr. Ralph Haugerud\, USGS/UW\, will discuss\, “How are mountains made? The origins of local relief in the North Cascades.”Mountains are made by uplift and erosion. In the North Cascades\, folding\, faulting\, and granite intrusions thickened the crust about 105-50 million years ago. But the associated uplift probably eroded away fairly quickly. Volcanic activity created some modern high elevations\, such as Mt Baker and Glacier Peak. Up-folding built other high areas\, such as the Naneum Ridge anticline\, which extends to the northwest through the Mt Stuart massif. Regional uplift probably has deeper causes.While we hypothesize the causes of uplift\, the story of erosion is more obvious. DESCRIPTION:This event is hosted by the Chelan Douglas Land Trust\nDate: Thu\, 04/14/2022\n\n\nTime: 9:00am – 2:00pm\n\n\nLocation\nHorse Lake Reserve Trailhead\n\n\n\n\nJoin Olivia\, CDLT’s Botanist\, for a mellow hike along the Old Ranch Road at Horse Lake Reserve. \nWe will aim to make it up to the western point of Glacier View trail\, where we hope to see snow douglasia in bloom. We may also see blooming balsamroot\, desert-parsleys\, serviceberry\, pussytoes\, brodiaea\, lupine\, springbeauty\, blue-eyed Mary\, yellow bells\, waterleaf\, prairie-star\, Oregon grape\, bluebells\, phlox\, currant\, and more. We will take a break around noon for lunch. No botanical experience needed; we will bring a plant list in case anyone is interested. We can walk and talk about plants\, restoration\, weed control\, and/or whatever the people are interested in. This event is for all ages. DESCRIPTION:This event is hosted by the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center \nJoin us in the MakerSpace during the month of April for Science on Saturdays. Saturday\, April 16 is Seed Paper. Have you ever wondered how to make your own paper? What about paper you can later plant to grow into flowers? Join us to learn how to make your own seed paper using recycled items and nature! You can make this paper decorative by using spices for color\, lavender for the smell\, dried leaves\, and vines for added texture. You can make the paper into cards and later plant it in soil. Watch the science behind these seeds as they germinate and grow!   \nJoin us for a beginner’s experience on homemade paper. The museum will provide all the materials and instructions to create a few different types of paper.  Each child needs to have an adult present. Preregistration is not required\, but encouraged as there are a limited number of spots which will be filled first-come\, first-served while supplies last.   \nCost is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers \nThis class will be offered at 10:30 AM\, 11:30 AM and 2 PM. \nFor more information click here.
