Learn more about how they work with partners like us to enhance and protect sustainable outdoor recreation in central Washington at https://www.tread-cw.org\nThis event is open to all trail user groups!\nIf you have always wanted to get involved in trail work or learn the basics of trail construction and maintenance\, or are a seasoned vet looking to learn new techniques and brush up on old ones\, this class is for you. The class and field work will be taught and supervised by members of Evergreen’s professional trail staff. This is a great opportunity to learn from the pros! \nWe especially love to teach new people who have never done trail work before\, so don’t hesitate to sign up and we will show you the ropes! \nClass Curriculum\n\n\nBasic stewardship (Classroom) \n\n\nStewardship\, Conservation\, Sustainability \n\n\n\n\nTrail construction and soil types (Classroom) \n\n\nBasic trail construction concepts to keep in mind when performing maintenance work. \n\n\n\n\nDrainage maintenance (Classroom) \n\n\nDrain types\, best practices. \n\n\n\n\nBrushing and clearing (Classroom) \n\n\nTools\, best practices \n\n\n\n\nBasic tool and work safety (Field) \n\n\nTool types\, appropriate usage and body mechanics \n\n\n\n\nTrail Maintenance Work (Field) \n\n\nA site is chosen that covers most of the concepts reviewed in the classroom portion \n\n\n\n\nDate: 10/12/2024 \nTime: 9 am \nLocation:\nClassroom: TREAD Office 25. North Wenatchee Ave. SUITE 214-1 Wenatchee\, Wa.  \nField portion: No. 2 Canyon\, Martin Ranch Trailhead (Upper Parking Lot)\, Trail TBD \nSchedule (please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can begin on time):\n\n\n9am – sign in\, introductions\, plan for the day \n\n\n9:15 am – Begin classroom slideshow presentation \n\n10:15 am – Break\n\n11:30 am – 12:00 pm – Lunch (Pizza provided by TREAD) \n\n\n12:30pm Meet at trailhead talk safety and work plan \n\n\n1:00pm  – Hike to worksite and begin demonstrations and work \n\n\n4pm – Gather up tools and hike out \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to bring and wear:\n\nWear layers of clothing appropriate for the weather. We work in the rain! Wear sturdy shoes appropriate for muddy\, uneven surfaces.\nWe will provide lunch. You should bring any snacks/drinks you want during the day.\nWe will provide trail tools\, safety glasses\, and gloves.
