SUMMARY:Washington Native Conifers
DESCRIPTION:An identification workshop taught by Susan Ballinger. \nWinter is a great season to learn to identify native conifer trees that grow in Washington’s east side Cascade Mountains. Wenatchee Naturalist Designer and Instructor Susan Ballinger has designed this hands on workshop to introduce cones\, form\, needle and bark patterns\, and the natural history of each tree. Microscopes will be used to examine live samples of needles. You will have your own learning aids and take samples home. DESCRIPTION:January 23\, 2018 Classes start promptly at 7:00pm.\nFix and Maintain Your Outdoor Gear with Wenatchee Outdoors Experts (Pybus University)\n Andy Dappen \nFor the first third of this session you will learn about special supplies\, materials\, resources\, and techniques to repair or restore your outdoor raincoats\, rain pants\, gaiters\, tents\, parkas\, packs\, sleeping pads\, boots\, and more. During the next two thirds of the session we’ll go to work on wounded gear that you’ve brought along with you. We’ll have a few sewing machines (and their owners) who will help sew failing seams or ripped equipment. We’ll also have resources on hand to patch\, glue\, or coat your injured gear. Even if the job is bigger than what we can tackle\, we’ll coach you on how to go about it. \nAndy Dappen\, outdoor writer and founder of the Wenatchee Outdoors website\, has been damaging-and fixing- his equipment for nearly 50 years. He says\, “On a writer’s wages I can’t afford to buy a lot of new gear.
