SUMMARY:Icicle Creek Glaciers & Upper Valley Erratics
DESCRIPTION:Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7:00 P.M.\, Tuesday\, February 13 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum\, 127 South Mission\, Wenatchee. \nIcicle Creek Glaciers and Upper Valley Erratics\n\nGlaciers from Icicle Creek advanced multiple times over the past several hundred thousand years and left deposits near Leavenworth. Some thought lakes or slack water from Glacial Lake Missoula outburst floods deposited the boulders lying between Leavenworth and Peshastin. The late local geologist Bill Long collected data about these boulders\, and others near Wenatchee\, during the 1960s to 1980s. That data tell a different story about Icicle Creek glaciers and the location of past termini. Kelsay Stanton\, WVC adjunct instructor and licensed professional geologist\, will talk about work she’s done in the Leavenworth area with USGS geologist Richard Waitt\, using information collected by Long\, and describe how it fits into the regional glacial and glacial outburst flood story. \nThe program is free & open to the public. \nFor overviews of the Ice Age Floods and more information on the Ice Age Floods Institute\, please see our website: http://www.iafi.org; http://www.hugefloods.com; and quadricopter videos of Ice Age features\, http://www.brucebjornstad.com.

SUMMARY:The Vanishing Caribou Rainforest
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, February 14\, 2018 – 7:00pm\n\n\n\nLocation: The Barn @ Barn Beach Reserve\, 347 Division Street\, Leavenworth\, WA\n\n\nHosted by the Wenatchee River Institue\n\n\n\nADMISSION BY DONATION\, ALL AGES WELCOME! \nDOORS OPEN AT 6:30PM FOR NO HOST REFRESHMENTS \nLast Stand: The Vanishing Caribou Rainforest is a cinematic journey into the tragically threatened world of endangered mountain caribou\, their home in the world’s largest remaining inland temperate rainforest\, and the critical human choices that will ultimately decide the fate of this stunning ecosystem. With the failure of agencies in the U.S. and Canada to regulate industrial resource extraction effectively\, honor the treaty rights of indigenous peoples\, and protect the integrity of the natural systems of this region\, this film gives voice to First Nations\, scientists\, foresters\, conservationists\, and recreationists attempting to chart a new path forward before it is too late.
