SUMMARY:Caring For Our Forests: Mountain Home Forest Health Walk
DESCRIPTION:Caring For Our Forests: Mountain Home Forest Health Walk \n\nView PDF \n\n\n\nDate\nThu\, 05/09/2019\n\n\nTime\n5:30-7:45 PM\n\n\nLocation\nMountain Home (parking limited\, will carpool)\n\n\n\nSign up online here!\n\nWhat does it take to restore a forest to a healthy condition? Join Land Trust Stewardship Director Neal Hedges and CDLT Past Board President/retired USFS forest scientist Dr. John Lehmkuhl for an evening hike on Mountain Home Ridge this May to see how the Land Trust has been working to address this question. \nLast fall\, the Land Trust completed the first stage of a forest thinning project on Mountain Home Ridge above Leavenworth. The ultimate goal is to restore the forest to a healthy and fire resilient condition\, similar to how dry forests historically looked\, and reduce wildfire risk to the community. On this hike you will join experts to learn the how’s and why’s of thinning a forest\, learn more about how this project will affect people and wildlife in the area\, and get a glimpse into what the forest might look like in the coming years. \nFor this hike\, we will meet in Leavenworth at 5:30 to carpool to the Ridge\, then spend about 1.5 hours hiking on roads and trails\, with occasional stops. We should be back to our cars in Leavenworth by 7:45. \nRSVPs required. This trip is limited to 14 participants. Participants will be emailed with more information before the trip. Please contact hillary@cdlandtrust.org or (509) 667-9708 for more information.
