SUMMARY:Wolverines at Rainier with Cascades Carnivore Project-Virtual
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Wenatchee River Institute\nPrice: Free\nWolverines have returned to Washington’s South Cascades. And scientists have discovered the first reproductive female wolverine and her two kits in Mount Rainier National Park in over one hundred years. Since 2008\, Cascades Carnivore Project has been studying the natural recolonization of wolverines in Washington. Over the past decade\, they have detected 9 individual wolverines from Mount Rainier National Park through the US Forest Service Wilderness areas south to Mount Adams. Wolverines are extremely rare in the U.S. and there may be fewer than 50 individuals in Washington. Join Jocelyn Akins\, founder of Cascades Carnivore Project\, for a chat about the project’s recent successes at Mount Rainier\, their ongoing work throughout the South Cascades\, and how you can join their efforts.\nHow to Watch:\nTune in via Facebook Live with the link above. SUMMARY:Indigenous Language Class
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Wenatchee River Institute \nJoin Annette Timentwa\, Language Curriculum Coordinator for the Colville Confederated Tribes Language Department\, for this 5-week basic introductory class on the nxaʔamxčín language. The class will be covering Moses-Columbian language history\, phonetics/orthography\, vocabulary and grammar. Each class will cover 5-10 words or phrases\, along with some simple grammar concepts to try and make simple nxaʔamxčín sentences. Annette will be utilizing audio\, visual\, and video tools after the first class covers basic linguistic concepts and history. Participation is not mandatory\, but always encouraged- as I know Zoom can be a little intimidating at first. Using your free time to learn another language can be difficult\, but Annette commends anyone willing to try and get out of their comfort zone! \nlámlamt/ thank you. \nCost: Pay What You Can\nWe want to make this class available to those looking to learn their own language. SUMMARY:Wild Ideas: The Salamanders of Central Washington
DESCRIPTION:The Chelan Douglas Land Trust presents: Wild Ideas-The Salamanders of Central Washington \nThis year for Wild Ideas\, we are exploring the hidden aspects of our local ecosystems through short Zoom talks with experts on three Thursdays in March. Our first talk is all about salamanders from a local expert. \nYou might be within feet of a salamander right now\, but not even know it! Join Torsten Watkins\, local 14-year-old herpetologist (person who studies reptiles and amphibians)\, as we explore the secretive but fascinating and beautiful species of salamanders you might see when exploring wet pockets of our arid landscape. \nTorsten Watkins has been studying reptiles and amphibians for 5 years. He has written a field guide to the reptiles and amphibians of Chelan County and has worked with CDLT\, Wenatchee Valley College\, North Central Regional Library and others to further knowledge of herpetology in our area. Visit his YouTube channel\, Iridophore\, for more herpetofaunal education. \nThis event is free. Registration is required\, but you can register up to the day of the event. Register here. \nWe’ll have a quick introduction\, then a 15-20 minute talk (pre-recorded to reduce technical difficulties)\, followed by a Q&A with the speaker. So feel free to get comfy\, grab a tasty beverage\, and join us!
