On April 16, 2019, three climbers went missing on Howse Peak in the Canadian Rockies. Two had received at least one prestigious Piolet d’Or international mountaineering award, and the third nominated multiple times. All were members of the elite North Face athlete team. Early the next morning, the Canadian Park service dispatched a search and rescue helicopter. They spotted evidence of a tragedy in avalanche debris at the base of the east face. Within forty-eight hours, the public information officer at Lake Louise had received over 700 media inquiries from countries around the world. Five days later, the men were recovered. This is the story of the last climb of Austrians David Lama and Hansjorg Auer, and American Jess Roskelley.
