The life of a Darkling Beetle (pictured). You can The life of a Darkling Beetle (pictured). You can find me wandering around on and off our trails. I can be larger in size (around half the length of a finger) and when threatened I stick my butt towards the sky! When really perturbed I can gift you a dark-colored fowl smelling fluid (your welcome 😉). I enjoy walking to flying and eat plant material. My friends have been eaten by coyotes, fox, hawks, snakes, ravens and crows. There are roughly 20 species of darkling beetles that live in the Mid-Columbia Basin. Please try not to squash me or my friends while hiking, biking or running. Thank you!
