About Al: Al Murphy is a retired forester. He spent his 37-year career with the Forest Service and the BLM working in most of the western United States. Al worked in many different jobs but most of them revolved around fire management. He has received multiple national awards recognizing his leadership in interagency fire management.
Al is an active Master Gardener where he spends most of his energy and knowledge working with fire departments, wildland agencies and homeowners on protecting homes in the Wildland Urban Interface. He has written books on fire-resistant landscaping to reduce the losses from wildland fires. When not working on wildland fire issues he is actively volunteering with CDLT and the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, building and maintaining hiking and mountain biking trails in the central Washington area.
