How can the creative process enrich your sense of place? How can it deepen your empathy for other beings?
If you’ve ever wondered about the utility of art beyond merely expressing yourself, this online course taught by Seattle-based artist Carina A. del Rosario will show you some rewarding functions of the artistic process.
Carina will share inspirations that have developed her own creativity and connections to her environment. She will also facilitate an exercise in ekphrastic poetry that invites us to imagine ourselves in a place and to use our imaginings for discovery and connection. The media covered include photography, collage, drawing, poetry and more. For maximum learning and fun, you may bring images you find influential and moving to trigger the process she’ll be teaching.
You’ll be shown how to create ekphrastic writing – a vivid description of a scene or a work of art – and there will be opportunities for participants to share their work with the group. Prepare to broaden and refine your creative practice in a way that connects you with landscapes and other beings.
Your registration includes a slideshow presentation about Carina’s work and the work of other influential artists using photographs, paintings, papercuts, collage and other mediums; discussion of the practice of imagining oneself as part of a scene as both a meditative practice and a creative one; guided ekphrastic writing exercise and live share-out with others. Screen reader support enabled.
