Native Plants and Vegetation Zones of the Olympic Peninsula

October 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Wenatchee Valley Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society will be hosting the distinguished speaker of the Olympic Peninsula Chapter on Monday, October 6th from 7-8pm at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center.

Native Plants and Vegetation Zones of the Olympic Peninsula

Washington’s Olympic Peninsula is home to a number of endemic species as well as a large variety of native plant communities that live on the Peninsula’s sea shore, forest, prairie, wetland, rain forest, subalpine and alpine habitats. We will see how factors like aspect, elevation, soil, moisture, and temperature shape each vegetation zone of the northwest corner of our state and gain an appreciation for the variety of native plant species that live in this diverse area.

About the speaker:
Dr. Fayla Schwartz earned her Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Washington with a specialty in plant taxonomy. She taught biology and botany at Everett Community College until retiring to the Olympic Peninsula in 2017. She is the Chair of the Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society and can be found frequently on the trails with WNPS as well as in the classroom with her springtime native plant taxonomy students.
