Shake, Rattle & Rebound
June 12, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 12 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum, 127 South Mission, Wenatchee.
“Shake, Rattle & Rebound”
The speaker, Sandi Doughton, is the award-winning science-writer for the Seattle Times and author of Full Rip 9.0: The Next Big Earthquake in the Pacific Northwest. She notes, “Over the past three decades, geologists have re-examined earthquake risk in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks to their work, we now know the region faces more powerful and a greater variety of earthquakes than even quake-prone California. But what are we doing to get ready? Preparedness efforts here greatly lag our neighbor to the south. We’re starting to make progress, but there’s a lot we can—and should—be doing to reduce damage when Big One hits. Japan, Chile and other countries have shown that taking steps to strengthen roads and utilities and make buildings safer, reduces damage, speeds recovery and saves lives. There’s no reason we can’t do the same thing in the Pacific Northwest – all we need is political and public support.”
The program is free & open to the public.
