This event is open to all trail user groups!

If you have always wanted to get involved in trail work or learn the basics of trail construction and maintenance, or are a seasoned vet looking to learn new techniques and brush up on old ones, this class is for you. The class and field work will be taught and supervised by members of Evergreen’s professional trail staff. This is a great opportunity to learn from the pros!

We especially love to teach new people who have never done trail work before, so don’t hesitate to sign up and we will show you the ropes!

Class Curriculum

• Basic stewardship (Classroom)

  • Stewardship, Conservation, Sustainability

• Trail construction and soil types (Classroom)

  • Basic trail construction concepts to keep in mind when performing maintenance work.

• Drainage maintenance (Classroom)

  • Drain types, best practices.

• Brushing and clearing (Classroom)

  • Tools, best practices

• Basic tool and work safety (Field)

  • Tool types, appropriate usage and body mechanics

• Trail Maintenance Work (Field)

  • A site is chosen that covers most of the concepts reviewed in the classroom portion

Field portion: No. 2 Canyon, Martin Ranch Trailhead (Upper Parking Lot), Trail TBD

Schedule (please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can begin on time):

• 9am – sign in, introductions, plan for the day

• 9:15 am – Begin classroom slideshow presentation

• 10:15 am – Break

• 11:30 am – 12:00 pm – Lunch (Pizza provided by TREAD)

• 12:30pm Meet at trailhead talk safety and work plan

• 1:00pm  – Hike to worksite and begin demonstrations and work

• 4pm – Gather up tools and hike out
