The Winthrop Snowshoe Softball tournament is a popular annual winter-time event sponsored by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce and Three Fingered Jack’s Saloon. Now in its third decade, this tournament is held every February on the three-day President’s Day weekend.
On President’s weekend, up to eight out-of-town and local coed snowshoe softball teams converge on Winthrop’s ball field for a weekend of good sport, great fun and an out of the ordinary event – one which is enjoyed by participants and spectators alike.
As the name implies, snowshoe softball is an actual softball tournament played in the snow with the participants strapped into snowshoes. The teams must be comprised of equal numbers of men and women. To enable the participants and the spectators to keep track of the action, all of the balls are florescent yellow.
