Success and Tragedy on Howse peak: The last climb of David Lama, Hansjorg Auer, and Jess Roskelley
Location: Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center On April 16, 2019, three climbers went missing on Howse Peak in the Canadian Rockies. Two had received at least one prestigious Piolet d’Or international mountaineering award, and the third nominated multiple times. All were members of the elite North Face athlete team. Early the next morning, the Canadian Park service dispatched a search and rescue helicopter. They spotted evidence of a tragedy in avalanche debris at the base of the east face. […]
Beginner Bird Walks
Beginner Bird Walks with Wenatchee River Institute November 9th, December 14th (every second Wednesday of the month) 8am-9:30am @ WRI Join WRI for a birding walk around the WRI campus! All birding experience levels are welcome. Loaner binoculars are available, too! You’ll also learn to use eBird, the largest biodiversity-related community science project in the world. Horse Lake Trail Maintenance
Hosted by Chelan Douglas Land Trust Join us for trail maintenance at Horse Lake Reserve. We will be clearing drainages and water bars along selected trails at Horse Lake. This is our annual "preparing the trails for winter" maintenance. The event involves a nice 2-mile hike with a grubbing tool. We are happy to have both experienced and new volunteers. Priest is a member of the Lhaq’temish (Lummi) Nation, and she earned degrees from Western Washington University and Sarah Lawrence College.
