NWAC Avalanche Awareness Class
Tuesday, January 10thΒ from 6:30-8pm @ WRIβs Red Barn As winter is coming in heavy with snow, join the Northwest Avalanche Center for this introductory class. Whether you ski, snowshoe, snowboard, or snowmobile, recognition of avalanche danger is an essential and potentially lifesaving skill. This class provides a basic approach to managing risk. NWAC instructors will explain how to access avalanche and mountain weather forecasts and recognize basic signs of avalanche danger. Starting from the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery, join Wenatchee River Institute naturalist guides on a one-mile snowshoe trail along beautiful Icicle Creek. We will learn about native wildlife and ecology along the way. What signs do we see along the trail that tell us what animals were there? How do the plants and animals survive winter? This fun, informative, guided snowshoe trek leaves from the Mission Ridge Base Area and heads up to the Midway Lodge. The pace of each trek is fitted to the groupβs interests and abilities. Great for first-time snowshoers and those looking for a unique, non-skiing, on-snow experience. Twilight Snowshoe Treks are approximately 1.5 miles in length, with an elevation gain of roughly 550 feet, and take approximately 2 hrs. Snowshoe Hikes at Squilchuck State Park
Winter Snowshoe Hikes at Squilchuck State Park This event is hosted by the Washington State Parks and the City of Wenatchee Parks and Recreation and Cultural Services Snowshoes are provided! These guided snowshoe hikes are open to all ages and experience levels. Washington State Park Rangers lead each hike on established, family-friendly trails to familiarize beginners with the basics of snowshoeing and discuss winter ecology. Space is limited so register early. Cost: Adults-$8-$8.50Β Kids-$5.25-$6.00 To register click here.
