Washington Bike Coalition Kick-off

by Charles Hickenbottom

Editors Note: While this article follows a slightly different format than typical WenOut content, it highlights an important topic: statewide representation for people who bicycle. Washington Bikes recently convened a new statewide coalition for safe and accessible bicycling in Wenatchee, bringing together advocates and leaders from across Washington. As the political voice for people who bike, WA Bikes works alongside its sister organization, Cascade Bicycle Club, to advance policies, education, and infrastructure that support safer communities. The organizations will return to Wenatchee April 1–3, 2026, for the Washington Bike, Walk, Roll Summit—a statewide gathering focused on creating safer places to bike, walk, and roll.

Charles Hickenbottom is the author of Greater Wenatchee Bicycle Routes – A History Told Through Maps, Drawings, and Pictures (2021). The book is available for purchase through the Wenatchee Valley Museum, and can be checked out from North Central Washington Libraries. Rights to the book have been donated to the museum.

Hickenbottom has served for 28 years on local bicycle advisory boards and committees. For most of two decades he commuted by bicycle to Lewis & Clark Elementary School from his home near Chase Park. Most of his errands around town are done by bicycle. Since finishing the history book, he has completed numerous informational articles for the Wenatchee Outdoors website, focusing his efforts toward education pertinent to bicycling around Wenatchee.
