Bicycling Through Downtown Wenatchee Past, Present, and Future

by Charles Hickenbottom

Charles Hickenbottom, author of Greater Wenatchee Bicycle Routes – A History Told Through Maps, Drawings, and Pictures, has a rich history with cycling in the Wenatchee area. His book is available for purchase at the Wenatchee Valley Museum, with all proceeds benefiting the museum, and can also be checked out from North Central Washington Libraries. Hickenbottom spent 25 years on local bicycle advisory boards and commuted by bike for two decades to Lewis & Clark Elementary School. Even now, he primarily gets around town by bicycle. Since completing the book in 2022, he has published several other works on local cycling topics, hosted by the Wenatchee Outdoors website.

The article linked below offers insights into the past, present, and future of bicycling from north to south through downtown. Our community has a unique opportunity to adopt a plan for Columbia Street that would provide bicycle infrastructure for north-south routes in downtown Wenatchee.
