Supporting the Future of the Enchantments

Last year, our incredible volunteers stepped up to care for the Enchantments. Whether you joined us on the trail last year or signed up hoping to volunteer, thank you for your willingness to care for the Enchantments. Your time, enthusiasm, and commitment to protecting this special place are deeply appreciated.

Following discussions this spring with the U.S. Forest Service, partner organizations, and community leaders, the Wenatchee Outdoors Board of Directors has made the difficult decision not to continue our volunteer stewardship program this season.

Why the shift?

This decision wasn’t made lightly. As we evaluated the program and the growing demands placed on both volunteers and the landscape, it became clear that protecting the Enchantments over the long term calls for more than volunteer efforts. With visitation reaching as many as 1,000 hikers in a single day, we believe lasting solutions depend on a comprehensive day-use management strategy supported by the U.S. Forest Service and shaped through collaboration with elected officials, partner organizations, and the outdoor community.

With visitation hitting up to 1,000 hikers a day, the strain on this landscape is immense. Protecting the Enchantments requires long-term, systemic management solutions rather than relying primarily on volunteer efforts.

What’s next?

Our commitment hasn’t changed. We are shifting our focus to support collaborative efforts with the USFS and elected officials to advance a comprehensive long-term day-use management strategy that truly protects this extraordinary wilderness.

In fact, we believe this decision allows us to advocate more effectively for the kind of long-term stewardship these remarkable public lands deserve. We’ll continue participating in collaborative efforts that encourage thoughtful management while promoting responsible recreation and Leave No Trace principles.

Doing our part

Healthy wilderness requires shared stewardship. Whether it’s your 1st visit or your 50th, the best way to help right now is to practice Leave No Trace and pack out everything you bring in.

Thank you to every volunteer, partner, and visitor. We look forward to sharing updates as these collaborative efforts move forward!
