Chelan County is currently accepting public comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for a proposed expansion of Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort. The comment period is open through October 21, and all community members are encouraged to review the proposal and provide feedback. The DEIS and instructions for submitting comments are available online.
The proposed expansion outlines several additions designed to enhance Mission Ridge as a year-round recreation destination. Plans include enlarging the alpine ski area, creating a snow tubing and Nordic skiing zone, upgrading roads and parking, and adding lodging options such as single-family homes, condos, townhouses, a new lodge, and employee housing. The proposal also includes development of commercial spaces.
Located about 12 miles southwest of Wenatchee on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range, the expansion would overlap with part of the existing resort and extend along its northeast boundary. Mission Ridge currently operates on more than 2,000 acres leased from the U.S. Forest Service and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The proposed expansion would add roughly 1,090 acres of public and private land.
Mission Ridge notes that the expansion could bring economic benefits, including job creation, increased local spending, and additional tax revenue. At the same time, projects of this scale raise important questions about land use, environmental stewardship, and how growth aligns with the values of the valley.
This is an opportunity for all community members-whether living near the base of the mountain or elsewhere in the region-to share their perspectives. Your input can help shape how development proceeds and ensure that any changes balance recreation, economic opportunity, and care for the landscapes and resources we all depend on.
