WenatcheeOutdoors recently partnered with Cascade Subaru and Wenatchee Parks and Rec Department to run a multi-week navigation course. The course covered map reading, plotting routes on a map, taking bearings from a map, following bearings, taking bearings from land, compensating for declination, triangulation, using a GPS unit, and practicing all these skills out in the field. If you missed the course you can still learn the basics from this presentation/slideshow, which covers the classroom portion of using a map and compass.

If you missed the course you also missed the joy of wandering around the Horse Lake Reserve with a map, a compass, and a bevy of chipper hikers.
