This trail climbs moderately along a nice ridgeline. Views of the area can be had from Basalt Peak and, if hikers continue 0.5 mile past the peak, another viewpoint offers another take of the scenery.

Distance: 4 miles to the junction with Rock Creek Tie Trail No. 1583
Elevation: Trailhead: 2500 ft; Basalt Pass: 5100 ft; Basalt Peak: 6000 ft
Access: Heading west on Hwy 2, take a right at Coles Corner and turn onto County Road 207. After crossing the Wenatchee River, take the first opportunity to turn right. Continue 1.5 miles to an intersection. Take a left onto Chiwawa Road 62 and drive about 13 miles. You will find the trailhead at Finner Creek.
Trip Instructions: From the trailhead, climb along the ridgeline to Basalt Peak. West of the peak, it is possible to continue another 0.5 mile along a viewpoint trail. Continue further on the Basalt Ridge Trail (No. 1515), or take the No. 1538 tie to the Rock Creek Trail.
